Direct Services
AEFCT provides direct one on one behavior therapy through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) as the main teaching components. ABA utilizes procedures derived from the principles of behavior in order to systematically improve behaviors. DTT is a teaching technique or process used to develop many skills, including cognitive, communication, play, social and self help skills. The teaching strategy involves breaking skills into the smallest steps and teaching each step of the skill intensively until it is considered “mastered”. DTT provides ample repetition, prompting and fading, and positive reinforcement procedures. AEFCT will also use other methodologies such as, Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped Children (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System ( PECS), Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and Social Stories if the client’s individualized program calls for it. This direct service is typically provided in the client’s home and is then generalized to other areas including their school and/or community.
School “Shadow” Services
AEFCT offers a school shadow service which means our team will support the client at school within a variety of classroom settings from Special Day Classes to full inclusion. Our team members will work with school district personnel and school staff to target classroom readiness and routines, meeting IEP goals and objectives, social facilitation, decreasing maladaptive behaviors and increasing appropriate replacement behaviors.
